We are looking for a knowledgeable, dedicated, and forward‑thinking individual for this exciting role in paediatric radiation oncology. The post is based at The Proton Beam Therapy Centre at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. The role covers a mix of early, mid and late shifts between 07:00 and 19:00, with occasional weekend and night shifts.
Key Clinical Responsibilities
- Manage the clinical care of paediatric patients at The Christie as part of the paediatric MDT.
- Review on‑treatment and follow‑up patients independently, face‑to‑face or virtually.
- Conduct treatment reviews for paediatric proton and photon patients and manage radiotherapy toxicities.
- Respond to children who become unwell at the Christie and carry the paediatric crash bleep.
- Liaise with the paediatric oncology team at RMCH and other multidisciplinary team members.
- Provide medical care for paediatric radioiodine inpatients.
- Support long‑term follow‑up care of paediatric patients.
Academic and Research Opportunities
- Dedicated time for research tailored to your interests, including clinical trials, service improvement projects and publication work.
- Present findings at conferences and contribute to scientific publications in proton therapy.
- Support education and training initiatives for peers, medical students, resident doctors and allied health professionals.
- Participate in wide variety of educational, research, leadership and management activities such as Proton Seminars, Proton Research Community, PBT Journal Clubs, proton late‑effects clinics and paediatric outpatient clinics.
Administrative and Professional Development
- Assist with administrative tasks related to direct patient care, national PBT registry and service development.
- Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as required by GMC and royal colleges, with time and financial support provided.
- Work closely with SAS tutor for professional support and development.
Schedule and On‑Call
- The schedule includes 3 Saturdays in a 12‑month period, on‑call contingency shifts and occasional night shifts for paediatric radioiodine patients.
- No participation in the standard on‑call rota; the role mainly involves Monday‑Friday 07:00‑19:00 shifts.
