Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat patients with acute hand trauma and post‑operative conditions in practitioner‑led hand clinics.
  • Provide cross‑site support across multiple hospitals within Manchester Foundation Trust.
  • Assist in consultant clinics and oversee hand rehabilitation and inpatient plastic hand therapy services.
  • Perform line management duties and contribute to the expansion and implementation of a Trust‑wide hand therapy service.
  • Lead the hand therapy team, supervise, teach and support professional development.
  • Deliver clinical education to other healthcare professionals within the wider team.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques, including advanced splinting, radiographic imaging interpretation, complex clinical reasoning, k‑wire removal and wound care management.
  • Follow local and national policies and procedures, including Manual Handling, Health and Care Professionals Council Code of Conduct/Ethics, Health and Safety, Infection Control, CPR, Equality and Diversity.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in hand therapy, as an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 therapist.
  • Strong bias towards the management of acute hand trauma.
  • Familiarity with the HEE ACP National Framework and commitment to the Centre for Advancing Practice process for ACP verification.
  • Competence in advanced splinting, interpretation of radiographic imaging, complex clinical reasoning, removal of k‑wires and wound care management.
  • Working knowledge of local and national policies and procedures.
