We are seeking a specialist haematology and lymphoma pharmacist (Band 8a) to work across multiple services for haematology, lymphoma, and teenage/young adult cancer patients. The role involves providing specialist clinical pharmacy services, supporting independent prescribing, and contributing to the development and audit of pharmacy practices within the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to haematology and lymphoma patients and teenage/young adult cancer patients in collaboration with Lead Haematology and Lymphoma Pharmacists.
- Provide specialist services across haematology/lymphoma ward areas, the TYA unit, ambulatory care unit, proton beam therapy unit, and day‑case settings.
- Assist and deputise for the Lead Haematology and Lymphoma Pharmacists, including participating in MDT meetings and multi‑disciplinary consultations.
- Support the development of specialty services such as CAR‑T cell therapies, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, and peripheral site pharmacy provision.
- Develop and maintain drug protocols, treatment guidelines, standard operating procedures, and local/national databases related to medication use.
- Contribute to the safety and cost‑effectiveness of medicine use, including compliance with safety schemes, appropriate use of antibiotics and antifungal agents, and audit participation.
- Forecast drug expenditure, identify prescribing changes, and report on utilisation data to lead clinicians and the Director of Pharmacy.
- Participate in clinical audit, practice research, and quality improvement projects within the designated disease group.
- Support independent prescribing, including training to become an independent prescriber and prescribing to appropriate patients in agreement with consultants.
- Represent the pharmacy service at clinical unit and divisional meetings, providing educational and training programmes to staff.
- Act as a mentor and role model to junior pharmacists and foundation year pharmacists.
- Maintain CPD portfolio and participate in departmental rotations, weekend service, bank holiday and on‑call work as required.
General Duties
- Assist in development, implementation, and management of training initiatives and competency frameworks.
- Participate in cost‑effective service review and development.
- Represent pharmacy and act as a link person at relevant meetings and conferences.
- Provide education and training to pharmacy, medical, and nursing staff.
- Participate in clinical audit or practice research as required.
- Support clinical screening and review of SACT prescriptions and clinical trial prescriptions.
- Check and supply medication to patients, counsel on correct use, and provide written information.
- Follow local, Trust, and National guidelines for safe medicines practice.
- Identify training needs and maintain a CPD portfolio.
- Participate in all department rotas, weekend service, bank holiday working, and on‑call as requested.
- Undertake any other duties consistent with the nature of the post as requested by Pharmacy Managers and the Trust.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Independently prescribing qualification or working towards it, essential for MDT outpatient clinics.
- Relevant clinical pharmacy experience in haematology and lymphoma settings.
- Knowledge of CAR‑T/immune‑effector cell therapies and haemato‑oncology medicines.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
- Proficiency with clinical data reporting, audit, and cost‑forecasting.
