We’re looking for a Senior Policy Officer Music to support the development and delivery of music policy and programmes across the city‑region. You’ll help turn strategy into action supporting the implementation of the Greater Manchester Music Plan and working with partners to strengthen the music ecosystem.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across a high‑profile and fast‑moving portfolio, alongside the Greater Manchester Music Commission and a wide range of local, national and industry partners.
Your role
- As part of the Culture, Creative Industries, NTE and Music team, you’ll support a broad range of work spanning policy, delivery, research and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the development and delivery of music policy and programmes, ensuring alignment with the Greater Manchester Strategy and mayoral priorities.
- Work with the Principal, Music and the Greater Manchester Music Commission to shape priorities, policy proposals and delivery plans, including the Greater Manchester Music Plan.
- Undertake research and analysis, helping to build the evidence base for policy, programme design and investment decisions.
- Support delivery of music‑related initiatives, working with partners across GM and ensuring alignment with wider culture, creative industries and night time economy priorities.
- Coordinate partnership and governance activity, including preparing reports, briefings and papers.
- Support stakeholder engagement, working with local authorities, industry, national bodies and cultural organisations.
- Contribute to funding proposals, policy briefings and consultation responses.
- Act as a key point of contact within the team for music‑related policy work, supporting effective communication and coordination.
About you
- You’ll be someone who enjoys working across policy and delivery and is comfortable operating in a collaborative and fast‑paced environment.
- Experience in policy, programme delivery or research, ideally within music, culture, the night time economy or a related field.
- An understanding of the music sector, including the roles of artists, venues, promoters and music businesses.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use evidence to inform policy and programme design.
- Excellent written communication skills, including producing clear reports, briefings and presentations.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Good relationship‑building skills, with experience working across partners and stakeholders.
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with a commitment to inclusion and supporting a diverse and sustainable music ecosystem.
