The post holder will act as a Senior Nursing Assistant, supporting the multi-disciplinary citywide team and working under the supervision of registered nurses.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting patients through various clinics across Manchester.
- Chaperoning doctors or specialist nurses.
- Assisting with procedures.
- Carrying out venepuncture.
- Providing microscopy staining slides.
- Diagnosing infections.
- Maintaining material resources.
- Rotating through managed areas within the clinic under delegation from a Registered Nurse.
Main duties:
- Assist and chaperone nurses and doctors in clinics, including sexual health screening and specialist contraception clinics.
- Provide phlebotomy service.
- Undertake specialist training for microscopy.
- Work independently to provide asymptomatic sexual health screening and PrEP Express appointment clinics.
- Prepare clinic rooms prior to sessions ensuring relevant equipment and supplies are available.
- Maintain stock levels, check and record deliveries, and ensure stock rotation.
Educational/Qualifications:
- Completed the National Care Certificate if relevant.
- Holds a Level 3 Vocational Qualification (e.g., NVQ or Apprenticeship) in clinical health care or equivalent knowledge and skill to undertake Band 3 clinical skills.
- Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or equivalent.
- Worked at a Band 2 Nursing Assistant or equivalent.
- If unable to demonstrate competency in Band 3 clinical skills, must undertake the Trust Clinical Support Worker Development Programme as a Band 2 and transition to Band 3 upon completion.
- Specialty-specific training and evidence of competencies achieved.
Training/Knowledge:
- Ability or willingness to be trained to stain slides, recognise microorganisms and diagnose infection.
- Understand the type of work involved and expected in the role.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Infection control.
- Capable of undertaking clinical observations (e.g., blood pressure, pulse).
Work Experience:
- Current sexual and reproductive health experience.
- Experience in an acute care environment, completing the full range of clinical commitments to NVQ Level 3.
- Experience across multiple specialities within a health care environment.
Skills:
- Work on own initiative, following direction by a Registered Nurse.
- Flexible and able to change from one task to another.
- Venepuncture.
- Good organisational skills; can organise own work tasks amid changing workload.
- Follow written protocol.
- Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail.
