The post offers excellent clinical experience in Plastic Surgery with a focus on surgical oncology including microsurgical reconstruction. It is suitable for those wishing to gain specialist Plastic Surgery experience prior to embarking on a training programme. The overall clinical workload will involve management of in‑patients, attendance at theatre and outpatient sessions and participation in MDTs.
In addition, duties include overseeing daily care of in‑patients, managing dedicated single‑stream clinics, monitoring plastic surgery flaps and contributing to high‑quality consultant‑led care across 7 days, including weekends. The appointee will work closely with the six Consultants, Specialty Doctors and Registrars rotating through the unit and will be expected to cover all areas of oncologic plastic surgery and microsurgical reconstruction.
Responsibilities also cover participating in MDTs, presenting at MDTs, attending both local and general anaesthetic lists, and supporting safe, timely decision making for patients.
Qualifications & Experience
- Prior experience or interest in oncologic plastic surgery, microsurgical reconstruction, and surgical oncology.
- Ability to manage in‑patient care and outpatient clinics.
- Collaborative working with multi‑disciplinary teams including surgical specialties, medical and clinical oncology.
The role provides access to a monthly plastic surgery clinical meeting, audit programme and teaching and education programme. Continuing Professional Development is supported by the Trust. On‑call commitments are not required for this role.
