An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the Christie NHS Foundation Trust in the Surgical Theatre team as a Lead Practice Educator with a focus on developing, delivering, and managing education across the theatre department. This is a unique opportunity as a 12‑month fixed‑term contract or secondment.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of practice education and current peri‑operative practice.
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) as an Operating Department Practitioner or a NMC registered nurse (Adult).
  • Oncology experience desirable.
  • Holder of an educational qualification, or working towards a postgraduate certificate or master’s level study.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate education within the peri‑operative complex.
  • Lead peri‑operative education projects, coordinating internal and external partners.
  • Provide clinical supervision programmes, teaching and mentoring to a range of staff groups.
  • Demonstrate leadership and specialist clinical leadership, managing the department and ensuring high standard of practice.
  • Support the training and development programme, ensuring staff achieve their full potential.
  • Maximise use of clinical and educational resources, including budget management.
  • Provide line management responsibilities.
  • Ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment, maintaining and monitoring standards within the department.
  • Act as departmental representative in course management and curriculum development forums and liaise with Higher Education institutions.
  • Maintain mandatory training and professional standards in line with trust requirements.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for students, new starters and existing staff, including orientation, preceptorship and mentorship programmes.
  • Coordinate, develop and evaluate competency‑based programmes for non‑medical staff.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring support, feedback and career guidance.
  • Encourage research awareness and evidence‑based practice.
  • Attend divisional and trust‑wide education meetings and provide feedback.
  • Ensure educational audits are undertaken and appropriate actions taken.
  • Maintain own professional status and ensure compliance with HCPC/NMC requirements.
  • Ensure all staff attend mandatory training annually.
  • Bring professional expertise, confidence and authority to all activities.
