We’re looking for compassionate and caring Nursing Assistants to join our Emergency Department at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Our Nursing Assistants take great pride in the essential work we do and are committed to delivering consistent, high quality, patient‑focused care. In this role, you will communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients, relatives, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, working flexibly across a range of day and night shifts over 7 days a week. You will be supervised by Registered Nurses and will work within Trust guidelines and protocols to support the Nursing team in delivering excellent patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support patients with personal care needs, including mobilising, toileting, bathing, dressing, eating and drinking.
  • Record patient observations and changes to patient conditions.
  • Assist with delegated clinical care duties following job training and assessment.
  • Work across day and night shifts in a team environment.

Training and Progression

All new staff join the Support Worker Development Programme for Nursing Assistants. Completion of the programme may lead to progression into a Band 3 Nursing Assistant role. Experienced Nursing Assistants may undertake a skills analysis to confirm eligibility for the Band 3 role, and receive support to access relevant clinical skills modules. Evidence of prior learning will be considered.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Nursing Assistant (RN, NHS) qualification or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of patient care procedures and safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to adapt to varied shift patterns, including nights and weekends.
