A vacancy at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has ambitious plans to transform healthcare in North Manchester through the North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) Redevelopment Programme which will deliver a new hospital and health campus at the existing North Manchester General Hospital site. This major investment will support the transformation of how we deliver our services and create modern facilities that support world‐class clinical care for our communities.

The NMGH New Hospital Project Digital Infrastructure & Technology Design Lead will be part of the Digital Workstream, contributing to the delivery of future‐ready healthcare infrastructure aligned with national standards and intelligent hospital design principles. The role supports the integration of intelligent hospital capabilities, including digitally empowered patients through accessible interoperable systems; smart buildings designed with embedded digital infrastructure to support real‐time data, automation, and predictive maintenance; digitally enabled staff with tools that enhance clinical workflows and decision‐making; and hospitals without walls that promote integrated care across physical and virtual environments.

The Digital Infrastructure & Technology Design Lead will spearhead the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex infrastructure initiatives that underpin the digital transformation of NMGH. Working closely with core MFT Senior technology leadership and cross‐functional stakeholders, the postholder will define project scope, undertake research on technology, define success criteria, and gain a strong technical understanding of requirements to ensure strategic alignment and seamless execution.

The postholder will lead the design and operationalisation of secure, scalable infrastructure solutions—spanning architecture, networks and cybersecurity—while managing governance, risk and vendor relationships. A key element will be the operationalisation of new technology to ensure it is sustainable, supportable by the digital teams and resilient.

The role will be responsible for the design of an end‐to‐end digital foundation and infrastructure, including network architecture, data centres, cybersecurity frameworks and smart building technologies. It will also coordinate with construction teams to embed digital infrastructure into the physical build (e.g., cabling, server rooms, IoT sensors).

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is the largest provider of specialist services, and our Oxford Road Campus in Manchester is the largest health academic campus in Europe.

Diversity Matters. MFT is committed to promoting equality of opportunity, celebrating and valuing diversity and eliminating any form of unlawful discrimination across our workforce, ensuring our people are truly representative of the communities we serve. All individuals, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation, are encouraged to apply for this post.
