Are you a Nurse or Paramedic looking for a new direction but not ready to take the leap from your current role? You will be working alongside the Police in custody suites caring for detainees, and you can build a career within the criminal justice system helping some of the most vulnerable people in society.
We require Registered (Adult) Nurses / RGNs, or Paramedics with 2 years’ post qualification experience, who want to deliver gold standard care and be a proud part of a team that has this vision, with a real passion for developing clinical, forensic and wider skills. You must be able to work flexibly not only in your base Custody suite but across an assigned region in the Police Custody Suites and Force area.
Pay structure (if based on shifts per month):
- £20.50 per hour for 1‑2 shifts
- £22.50 per hour for 3‑5 shifts
- £24.50 per hour for 6 shifts and experience
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- RN, RGN or (RMN with dual registration) – 2 years post qualification
- Band 5 minimum – Paramedic with 2 years post qualification
- Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a patient‑facing role within a relevant field: General Practice, A & E, Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, Walk‑in Centres, Substance Misuse Services, Prison Healthcare or Ambulance Service
- Licence/Certification: HCPC/NMC (required)
- Driving Licence (required)
- Must be a UK resident for 3 years with no gaps out of country longer than 3 months
All candidates will be subject to Police Vetting.
Responsibilities
The custody suites can be an energetic place to work, with no two shifts the same. While detained, we provide individuals with all their physical, mental healthcare and wellbeing needs, as well as gather any forensic samples needed by the police to aid their investigations. You will keep careful records on our computerised systems, assess whether people are fit to be detained or released, administer medications when needed, and work with local Liaison and Diversion teams to address root cause issues that can prevent future crime. No previous forensic experience is required – we will provide all your training.
