A vacancy has arisen for three substantive Consultant Paediatric Nephrologists to work 10 Programmed Activities. This substantive post will replace three current locum positions. The successful candidates will join a team of 9 consultant colleagues in total (8.5WTE). The consultants will be based at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. These posts will develop and support the existing and established paediatric nephrology portfolio of services.

The roles will specifically involve RMCH general nephrology clinics as well as supporting and developing the general nephrology regional outreach clinics to district general hospitals within our NW kidney network. All consultants will provide hot-week (or split 4:3 equivalent) on-call provision at a 1:8 ratio except for our academic professorial appointment. The clinical aspects of the post will be overseen by a surgical CSU, within the Division of Children’s Services.

The post-holder will work closely with all members of the nephrology and wider teams. The appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient care for patients with nephrology conditions, with a specific focus on home haemodialysis, supporting the expansion of this service to patients across the Northwest. Emergency and out of hours cover is provided by a consultant on call rota (non-resident), which is high intensity but always interesting and challenging. The on-call consultant undertakes ward rounds on Saturdays and Sundays. Cross-cover arrangements are in place to cover patients during times of leave.

It is expected that the post holder will work closely with consultant colleagues to ensure clear handover and continuity of care for all patients and that time off during non-hot weeks will be taken flexibly to ensure the department is fully covered at all times. The post will attract 10 PAs as detailed in the attached sample job plan. Up to 1 SPA per week is dedicated to continued professional development and teaching.

Benefits:

  • 10 PAs available as per sample job plan.
