Colorectal Medical Oncology
The appointed locum medical oncologist will work within the colorectal team to deliver a comprehensive clinical service for colorectal cancer patients across outpatient, inpatient, and ambulatory settings.
Responsibilities
Administering Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT).
Providing medical oncology input to the Colorectal MDT.
Running a clinic at Macclesfield.
Central and peripheral delivery of systemic therapy per agreed protocols.
Peripheral services through MDTs and outreach clinics.
Patient management for colorectal cancer patients receiving standard care and clinical trials, including treatment decisions and ongoing care.
Clinical governance: participating in protocol updates, guideline maintenance and clinical audits under consultant supervision.
Research: contributing to existing research projects and developing new opportunities within the team.
Protocol development: revising and creating evidence-based treatment protocols; completing related administrative tasks.
Professional development: maintaining CPD in line with Royal College of Physicians recommendations.
Teaching & training: delivering undergraduate teaching on oncology topics and training junior doctors and multidisciplinary team members in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Audit: undertaking clinical audits as part of The Christie Medical Staff Committee.
Acute Oncology
The Trust provides inpatient care for selected non-elective admissions primarily related to malignancy or its treatment.
All patients are under oncology care at the Trust, with elective admissions for treatment or procedures.
Bed base: 80 beds across several wards.
Senior inpatient cover is shared between the patient\'s oncology team (consultant and registrar) and the hospitalist team.
This post includes 1 PA Acute Oncology support at Macclesfield.
Acute Oncology Responsibilities
Provide consultant-level support to Acute Oncology services at The Christie and Christie @ Macclesfield.
Clinical time: dedicated 3 sessions per week for acute oncology.
Patient management: manage acute oncology patients admitted to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
Board rounds: attend and contribute to inpatient board rounds.
Education: support and educate junior doctors.
MDT participation: attend Acute Oncology MDT at Macclesfield.
Virtual support: provide remote support for the Macclesfield AO service, including service improvement initiatives.
