A substantive Consultant in Colorectal and Benign Pelvic Floor surgery is needed within the Gastrointestinal Medicine & Surgery (GIMS) service unit at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will be a core member of the General Surgery department, Colorectal Cancer Service and the Pelvic Floor Service.

Responsibilities

  • The post carries 10 Programmed Activities (PA’s) including core 1.5 SPA, which covers:
    • Adult Theatre lists (including colorectal cancer and benign pelvic floor and joint cases with urogynaecology and the mesh complication specialist service)
    • Out-patient clinics (including joint urogynaecology clinics with St. Mary’s Hospital)
    • Lower GI Endoscopy
    • Administration
    • Teaching
    • Continuing Medical Education
    • Ward round/cover
    • Clinical Governance, including audit
    • MDT (including colorectal cancer, pelvic floor and mesh complication)
  • The theatre component is currently flexible with the expectation that it will change to fixed day operating. There is also an opportunity to backfill theatre lists when other surgeons are on call, to list urgent cases, and to support joint operating with St Mary’s Hospital gynaecological oncology and benign service.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or equivalent, in General Surgery with colorectal subspecialisation, and must be fully registered with the GMC with Licence to Practice.
