The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 Β£ per year.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a clinical fellow primarily supporting the delivery and development of breast technical radiotherapy at The Christie. This post is fixed-term until the end of March 2027 and will be based at The Christie.

The successful applicant will work alongside consultants and trainees in outpatient clinics as well as supervising technical radiotherapy delivery. There is also the option to take part in research under the supervision of the breast or lung oncology teams. The successful applicant will be joining a Clinical Oncology team comprising 59 consultants and 24 SpRs plus Clinical Fellows. They will provide input to all aspects of the management of patients with breast cancer and radiotherapy. They will also be expected to teach junior medical staff and take part in audit and research.

Main duties of the job include but are not limited to:

  • The screening of referrals
  • Active participation in the MDT
  • Assessment of patients
  • Review of patients on pre-treatment and treatment
  • Planning breast radiotherapy including technical radiotherapy
  • Leading peer review sessions
  • Technical radiotherapy development and post-treatment
  • Act as a supportive colleague to junior medical staff, medical students, and nurses on occasion

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% of patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.

Role Planning – Monday to Friday schedule including clinic, admin, research, peer review sessions, radiotherapy planning and on-call commitments. This role does not require participation in the on-call rota.
