The role of Assistant Director for Safer & Stronger Communities plays an integral part in supporting Greater Manchester to deliver its Police and Crime Plan, Fire Plan, and ultimately the Greater Manchester Strategy launched last year. Alongside the Executive Director, Deputy Director and other Assistant Directors you will drive critical, innovative programmes of work under the Safer and Stronger Communities agenda.

You will lead a portfolio and teams to achieve the ambitions set out in the Greater Manchester Strategy, including the Police & Crime Plan, and work across Greater Manchester (GM) with the Deputy Mayor for Safer and Stronger Communities, Greater Manchester Police chief officers and senior leaders. You will play a vital role in building and maintaining significant relationships with senior colleagues across GMCA, partner agencies and the voluntary, community, faith and social‑enter sectors. You will also play a key role in developing cross‑directorate working to ensure effective delivery of the GMCA Business Plan. This is an exciting time to join our team as we have an ambitious agenda. Recent investments support key strands, including tackling gender‑based violence, criminal justice transformation, reducing serious violence and knife crime, and improving responses to hate crime.

We are looking for a proactive leader who role models positive leadership and management behaviours, and who can lead and manage teams to achieve excellence and foster a culture of high performance. You should be passionate about shaping the future of Greater Manchester, have a track record of success and experience operating in a strategic role leading programmes that impact local communities, and possess strong business acumen. High-level of relationship‑building skills and the ability to give critical advice to senior managers and political leaders are essential. Experience in the Police, Crime, Criminal Justice, or Fire sector would be advantageous but not required.
