About the Role

Are you looking to kick-start a career in finance while gaining a fully funded finance qualification? At TfGM, we’re offering an exciting opportunity to join our Finance team as an Apprentice Accounting & Finance Manager.

Over a four‑year programme, you’ll study towards a degree while gaining hands‑on experience across a range of financial functions. You’ll develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to support financial strategy within a large, complex public sector organisation that plays a vital role in connecting people and places across Greater Manchester.

Your Responsibilities

As an Accounting & Finance Apprentice, you’ll rotate across different areas of Finance, building a broad understanding of how financial services support organisational success. You’ll contribute to activities such as budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, business case development and data analysis. Alongside your studies, you’ll work closely with colleagues across TfGM, developing strong business‑partnering and communication skills.

Qualifications & Skills

We’re looking for someone who is motivated to learn and develop a career in finance. You should have strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and work both independently and as part of a team. You’ll be organised, able to manage your time effectively, and confident using IT tools such as an ERP system, Excel and Word. Most importantly, you should have a genuine commitment to your own development and enthusiasm to learn in a fast‑paced, supportive environment.

What We Offer

This is a 4‑year apprentice fixed‑term contract with a starting salary of £29,836 per annum. You’ll gain a fully funded degree and valuable on‑the‑job experience within a large public sector organisation. You’ll benefit from structured placements across Finance, exposure to senior stakeholders, and mentoring and development support throughout your apprenticeship. On completion of the programme, you’ll also have the opportunity to progress towards a professional accounting qualification with CIMA.

Benefits

  • Generous annual leave starting at 28 days (plus bank holidays), increasing with service, with options to buy more.
  • Free travel on buses across Greater Manchester, and rail or Metrolink travel to and from work.
  • Local Government defined pension scheme with life cover of 3x salary and options to boost contributions.
  • Enhanced family‑friendly leave policies, including support for fertility treatment, flexible and hybrid working, and a special leave policy to support unexpected events.
  • Well‑being support, personal and career development programmes, flexible working arrangements, and financial support initiatives.
