To assist the Head of Department (HOD) and other fee earners in the effective running of the department, carrying out the allocated duties in a professional and efficient manner, meeting our clients’ needs, whilst contributing to the overall cost‑effective management and success of the department.
The role is fully office‑based and includes office admin support, running routine tasks from the fee earners’ task list, individual job/trial bundle preparation, and client liaison. Responsibilities cover a range of family law matters including divorce, matrimonial finances, nuptial agreements, child and injunction matters, cohabitee disputes and pre‑ and post‑nuptial agreements for medium to high net‑worth clients.
Qualifications and Experience required
- Experienced Family Paralegal (essential)
- Ability to generate billable work on individual cases

Family Paralegal Job Responsibilities
- Deal with initial enquiries by phone and in person – take basic details, undertake name‑conflict checks and arrange initial appointments with the relevant fee earner
- Communicate messages quickly and efficiently to fee earners and relay messages as directed
- Keep files constantly updated
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients
- Collate and index documents into court‑approved order
- Upload, under direction, and download documents from the Court Portal
- Check the Court Portal for updates
- Contact the Court for information
- Take notes and attend court alongside barristers and liaise with the fee earner as required
- Arrange conferences with counsel and client, and arrange MS Teams appointments where necessary
- Attend appointments with fee earners in complex cases and take notes
- Input documents/bundles onto Proclaim
- Prepare court bundles and brief enclosures on BundleDocs
- Take telephone messages for fee earners
- Take payment from clients
- Scan documents onto Proclaim
- Handle department administration (e.g., old files, reviewing and scanning documents onto Proclaim so files can be destroyed)
- Chase clients for outstanding information and documents
- Arrange signatures on documents via the e‑sign system
- Self‑support in terms of typing
- Provide secretarial cover as and when required
- Perform any other duties reasonably requested by management
The ideal Family Paralegal will need to be/have
- Effective time management and ensure time is recorded correctly on the system
- Respond to clients’ urgent enquiries empathetically and proactively
- Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and other departments within the firm
- Contribute to the dynamic and profitable growth of the current Family department in all offices
- Ensure compliance with all SRA, firm policies, and any other policy or certification approved by the Board
- Travel to other offices in line with department requirements
- Keep fully up‑to‑date with the law and any changes
- Act with integrity and in the best interest of the firm
- Follow all policies as required
- Have a good command of written and spoken English
- Provide excellent service to clients
- Hold a clean driving licence
- Possess strong communication and business networking skills
- Be personable and professional
- Be hardworking and organised with the ability to multi‑task
- Be self‑motivated and accountable
Location and Hours
This is a full‑time permanent role based in the Macclesfield area.
