Neway International is seeking Senior Assessment Review Officers to join our client Somerset Council. This is a fully remote role located remotely with hours of 37 per week. The start date is 09 February 2026 and the duration is 8 weeks. Two positions are available.
The Senior Assessment Review Officer will lead on the coordination and management of SEND tribunal and mediation activity. This includes preparing legal documentation, ensuring compliance with statutory frameworks, and working closely with families, legal representatives and internal teams. The role requires a high level of expertise in SEND legislation, strong case management skills and the ability to handle sensitive and complex disputes professionally.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate responses to SEND tribunal appeals, including evidence gathering and preparation of legal documentation.
- Represent the local authority at tribunal hearings where required.
- Arrange and support mediation meetings to resolve disputes outside formal legal proceedings.
- Ensure all actions comply with the SEND Code of Practice, tribunal procedures and statutory timelines.
- Liaise with parents/carers, schools, legal representatives and internal teams to manage cases sensitively and effectively.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues on tribunal and mediation processes.
- Maintain accurate case records, outcomes and learning points to support service improvement.
- Strong understanding of SEND legislation, tribunal processes and statutory responsibilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage complex, sensitive cases with professionalism and attention to detail.
- Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution and advocacy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet statutory deadlines.
- Experience within SEND, education or local authority statutory services is highly desirable.
