Ceredigion County Council Direct Payment Support Service

Location: Llandysul area

Hours: 12 hours during school holidays, Monday to Sunday; 6 hours Saturday/Sunday during term time.

Rate of pay: £14.00 per hour with mileage and expenses whilst on duty.

Looking for a committed, caring and flexible Personal Assistant to support a young person to access the community for 6/12 hours per week. The post is funded through the direct payments scheme and is intended to enable this family to manage their support independently. Training can be provided as required and where available.

Must have own transport and a full, clean driving licence. Experience of developmental delay is advisable for the role. This post is for someone who likes to be active and be outdoors.

Main duties include:

  • Support a 17-year-old with learning difficulties in accessing various activities such as shopping, cinema, walks on the beach, music festivals, gardening, horse riding, and visiting the Arts Centre in Aberystwyth.
  • Assist in gaining independence and enable social interaction within the community.
  • Supervise during horse riding sessions, swimming, walking, and other interests while ensuring safety at all times.
  • Local knowledge of the area and available activities would be an advantage.
  • Be reliable with good timekeeping, able to use own initiative, and self-motivated.
  • Maintain confidentiality and develop supportive relationships.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

A full driving license and use of a car is required, with business use on your insurance to be able to use the vehicle during work hours.

This vacancy is being advertised on behalf of an individual employer. You will be employed by that individual and not Ceredigion County Council. To apply for this job, please complete the application form.

This appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check, which will incur no cost to the applicant. If you have an online update DBS, you have a great chance of becoming shortlisted for this position. If requested by the employer, two satisfactory references must be provided.

This post is subject to a trial period of 1 month and a probationary period of up to 6 months. Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4-weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK, and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement.

You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences. You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
