Join the team as a ward clerk/receptionist for a 12‑month fixed contract covering maternity leave in the Theatre Admissions Unit (TAU) at The Royal Liverpool Hospital. TAU is a large ward area consisting of 18 side rooms and four bays that can accommodate up to 7 patients. It handles pre‑operative preparation for theatre and follows up on day‑case patients who do not require overnight stay. The unit admits a wide range of specialties, including Urology, Colorectal, HPB, General Surgery, Interventional Radiology and Ophthalmology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, patients and staff.
  • Provide telephone enquiries and liaison with all staff and departments across the hospital.
  • Book outpatient appointments within specialties for post‑operative patients.
  • Prepare notes for patients scheduled for transfer to theatre (TCI’s).
  • Work the reception desk from 7am to 3pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Assist the Ward/Unit team in delivering high‑standard pre‑ and post‑operative care for patients and their families or carers.
  • Perform basic clerical duties: filing, obtaining case notes and x‑rays, recording maintenance repair forms, and monitoring stock levels of stationery, ward provisions and clean linen.
  • Act as a messenger to transfer items to other wards, laboratories, or medical engineering where required.
  • Cover duties of absent colleagues as needed and follow all organisational policies and procedures.
  • Receive training provided on all relevant systems and protocols.
