SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Bootle
Contract: Full-time, long-term supply (Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm, term-time)
Pay: £110 per day
Start date: September 2026

A specialist SEND school in Bootle is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. This setting supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism spectrum condition (ASC), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and speech and communication difficulties. The school is committed to providing a nurturing, structured, and highly supportive environment where every pupil can thrive both academically and personally.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils with complex needs, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver tailored learning and emotional support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support, adapting learning to meet individual needs
  • Supporting pupils with ASC, SEMH, and communication needs within a structured environment
  • Using communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or other AAC methods
  • Assisting with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development
  • Supporting the implementation of EHCPs, behaviour plans, and therapeutic strategies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and support staff

Qualifications

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with ASC, SEMH, or complex needs
  • Be calm, resilient, and proactive, with a nurturing and patient approach
  • Be confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability
  • PECS, Makaton, BSL or AAC training (desirable)
  • Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification (desirable)
  • MAPA, Team-Teach, or similar de-escalation training (desirable)
