We are looking for someone who shares our values of kindness, respect and patient-centered care. You do not need previous phlebotomy experience to apply. Full training and ongoing support will be provided, making this a great opportunity for those starting or developing a career in healthcare.
As a Band 2 Phlebotomist, you will play an important role in helping patients receive the right care at the right time by collecting blood samples safely and accurately. You will often be the first person a patient meets, so a calm, reassuring manner and good communication skills are essential to ensure every patient is treated with dignity, compassion and understanding.
This is a 30-hour per week post working across the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital sites. The role is flexible to meet service needs. Shifts are allocated by the service based on patient demand and rota requirements, and applicants must be able to work a range of shifts on a rota basis. Shifts will be scheduled between 7am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 1pm at weekends, including Bank Holidays.
Following full training, you will take blood samples from patients in both outpatient clinic settings and on hospital wards. You will work as part of a supportive team, treating all patients with kindness, dignity and respect. You will be responsible for collecting and labeling blood samples accurately, always following infection prevention and safety procedures, and ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory promptly.
Good communication, teamwork and attention to detail are essential to support safe, effective care and a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out blood collection procedures in line with Trust policies, local procedures and national guidance, ensuring patient safety and quality of care are central to all practice.
- Confirm patient identity, gain consent and check request details prior to undertaking procedures.
- Prepare, assess and dress venepuncture sites appropriately, recognizing own limitations and seeking support from a senior colleague when required.
- Safely handle blood and other potentially infectious bodily fluids in line with Health and Safety legislation and best practice.
- Treat all patients, relatives and carers with kindness, dignity and respect, recognizing individual needs and differences.
- Work collaboratively with ward teams, outpatient staff, laboratory services, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and effective care.
- Work in accordance with Trust values, policies and procedures, taking responsibility for personal behaviour and professional standards.
- Keep up to date with local procedures and changes in practice to phlebotomy services.
- Engage positively in learning, supervision and feedback, demonstrating a willingness to develop skills and knowledge.
