Part‑time Care Assistants required (male and female carers needed) to support a severely (physically) disabled woman in the Crosby, Liverpool L23 area. The job will consist of providing personal care, meeting the individual's complex needs and supporting the individual with their social/domestic activities. All aspects of personal care work are involved. Must be caring, enthusiastic, patient, reliable, flexible, willing to learn and have a positive attitude. There are no formal qualifications for this role, as all relevant training will be provided. 16 hours per week, based on a 7‑day rota system (with the potential/future option of increasing the number of hours). Annual leave per year pro‑rata.
Nature of the Job – The Personal Care Assistant’s role is to provide a good quality of personal care, in accordance to the individual's specified requirements and support the individual with their personal and domestic activities, both in the home and out and about. Personal Care Assistants should appreciate that good communication is vital to understanding the needs of the Employer and the tasks and responsibilities expected of the Personal Care Assistant may vary from time to time to meet the needs of the individual.
Day‑to‑Day Support
- Carry out all aspects of personal care according to the individual's specified requirements.
- Understand how being in constant spasm and pain affects the individual and the importance of carrying out manual handling/lifting in a safe and efficient manner.
- Understand how the individual communicates.
- Support the individual to go out and about.
- Accompany to appointments and social meetings.
- Enable the individual to carry out any chosen activity, whether inside or outside their home, by carrying out any other requests which they may reasonably make.
- Assist with other daily tasks as and when required.
General Tasks
- Keep office/bedroom, wheelchair, toilet chair and other equipment clean and tidy.
- Maintain the equipment, checking it’s working, tight and not damaged.
- Set up computers and associated equipment.
- Assist with computer related tasks (typing, moving the mouse, putting disks in/out and putting paper in printer etc.).
- Assist with the organisation of cupboards and files.
- Put CDs in CD player and clean them.
- Carry the communication aid/laptop around and keep it safe/clean while out.
Personal Care Support
- Support with all aspects of personal care as required by the individual including washing, bathing, dressing, toileting, cleaning teeth, combing hair, feeding, drinking, cleaning glasses etc.
- Assist with moving, manual lifting and handling in/out of various equipment.
- Carry out daily physiotherapy and stretches.
- Make sure the individual is in the right position in wheelchair, toilet chair and in the sling when used.
- Make sure the individual is comfortable/presentable.
Health Care Tasks
- Check skin for potential pressure sores.
- Dress feet with lint and gel products.
- Prevent/remove hard skin.
- Apply creams.
- Cut and file nails.
- Administer medication.
Training – The training is tailored to the individual's specified needs.
