An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced secretary to join the Clinical Chemistry Admin Team. We are based in the Edwards Building on the Royal site campus, working in an open plan office that encourages peer support and the sharing of best practice. We offer flexibility, agile working options, a wide range of staff benefits, in‐house training programmes and opportunities for self‐development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing comprehensive support to consultants and speciality teams, including nurse practitioners and clinicians.
  • Organising workload and coordinating activities with other medical secretaries to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Maintaining and managing 18‐week pathways, including tertiary referrals to external trusts, ensuring accurate recording on the PAS system.
  • Tracking referrals to ensure patients are reviewed promptly and checking that follow‐up appointments are arranged in conjunction with the Referral to Treat (RTT) pathway.
  • Mentoring, training and supervising relevant staff as required.
  • Handling annual leave requests and sickness absence return‐to‐work interviews.
  • Supporting consultants in non‐clinical activities such as preparing presentations, taking minutes of meetings, setting agendas, and circulating supporting documents.
  • Typing dictation from audio transcription of clinical correspondence and documentation, and typing discharge summaries as appropriate.
  • Maintaining an effective track of inpatient referrals and ensuring all correspondence relating to patient care is acted upon in a timely manner.
  • Working independently using judgment, acquired knowledge and tact to resolve queries or refer to the appropriate person.
  • Promoting effective flows in the department and covering leave to ensure the office runs smoothly.

Qualifications:

  • Fast, accurate keyboard skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (advantageous).
  • Previous experience working within an NHS office environment (advantageous).
  • Initiative‐taking attitude and excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with both patients and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
