We are seeking an individual to join our inpatient mental health service in our newly opened hospital at Mossley Hill, Archer Ward, a 20 bedded male acute ward.
As a Housekeeper under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Nursing team, you will support in ensuring a clean and safe environment where the individual needs of our service users are met in a timely and effective manner utilising best practice. Working as part of the team, you will help service users with their nutritional needs, assist in maintaining a clean and therapeutic environment, support and promote independent personal care as well as welcoming and greeting visitors to the ward. You will enjoy working as part of a highly skilled and motivated team within a dynamic and busy environment to deliver excellent care.
This post is subject to an enhanced DBS Check. Successful candidates will be required to pay for the cost of the DBS Disclosure which is £44.00, the cost of which will be deducted from first salary. Registration with the DBS update service is mandatory for new starters in those roles that require an Enhanced DBS.
Main duties of the role involve:
- Meeting Nutritional Needs: assist patients to order food that meets dietary requirements and promote a pleasant environment for eating, including removing clutter from tables.
- Maintain Food Storage: take responsibility for food stores, ensuring cleanliness, discarding out-of-date items, and stock rotation; monitor ward fridge temperature per trust policy; label and store food in the fridge; manage the staff fridge contents.
- Maintaining the Environment: establish a pleasant atmosphere; monitor service delivery related to cleaning, food, linen and the environment with attention to bathrooms and toilets; report maintenance/repair needs to Estates; monitor response times; maintain cleanliness of nursing equipment and trolleys; liaise with staff after patient discharge for bed/bedroom cleaning; check curtains/blinds; ensure alcohol gel dispensers are clean and replenished; ensure correct waste management, including confidential waste; keep notice boards tidy and ensure posters/flyers are laminated and in date; keep patient information boards up to date and clean.
- Clinical Support: facilitate and support development of appropriate personal care, self-help, communication and social skills; promote independence in activities of daily living; maintain records under direction of qualified staff; involve service users and carers in delivery of care; provide reassurance and support to service users and carers; work with the care team to meet service user needs; recognise and respond to urgent/emergency situations; provide escort and transfer as directed; report concerns to the Qualified Practitioner; support equality, diversity and rights.
- General: maintain privacy, dignity and confidentiality; assist with bed making and linen; liaise with domestic supervisor for deep cleaning; report damaged or soiled furniture; welcome visitors; respond to telephone calls courteously; maintain confidentiality in communications; promote cost-effective use of resources; respond to patient concerns with nursing staff; promote effective communication with patients, colleagues, professionals and visitors; maintain a professional image.
