Ophthalmology Permanent post Band 3 Full time 37.5 hrs per week over 4 days (flexible day off). An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward-thinking Health Care Assistant to work within the very busy ophthalmic clinic with an emphasis on Medical Retinal support. Supporting trained staff, medical teams, patients and their relatives.
The role will include measuring visual acuity; instilling eye drops and general care of the visually challenged patients. Experience of working within an Ophthalmic Outpatient clinic is essential. This is a dynamic hybrid role combining clinical support with essential administrative responsibilities, candidates will need proven experience of working in an Ophthalmology OPD setting.
The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong understanding of ophthalmology pathways, be confident using patient administration systems such as IPM and Medisight, with experience of managing appointment booking and clinic coordination.
A key component of the role includes supporting and undertaking duties as a Medical Retina and Fluorescein Angiogram Coordinator, therefore, a comprehensive understanding of ophthalmic admission systems and the ability to effectively manage complex patient pathways within a busy outpatient environment is essential.
Participates in all aspects of patient care, provision of patients' toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained. Carry out any movement and handling within the safe practice guidelines from your mandatory training and in relation to the patient’s manual handling plan. Removal of cannulas. Prepare and maintain environments for clinical treatments and investigations. Prepare patients for treatments, investigations or procedures including offering support, answering questions appropriate to own knowledge/experience and assisting in recovery. Collection pharmacy drugs as requested. Chaperoning in clinic rooms, escorting patients to clinical departments within the hospital and to other hospitals for investigations. General and clinical observations of patients, reporting anything untoward. Supporting the safe delivery of treatment and care in the intravitreal injection suite in conjunction with the specialist team. Listing patients for surgical/non-surgical procedures.
