The predicted salary is between 46692 - 62682 £ per year.

The post holder will work closely with the Service Lead for Haematology/Transfusion, across all sites as well as the Clinical Heads to ensure that the service is responsive, innovative and meets performance, quality targets and standards, including financial and operational management of the services.

The post holder will be expected to exercise initiative, prioritise conflicting work demands and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the multi-disciplinary team, internal departments and external partners to ensure continuity in achieving excellence in patient care.

The post holder will provide specialist expertise in Haematology and be the lead scientist in the area possessing Fellowship of the IBMS, a Masters degree or equivalent.

Utilising effective change management, people management and project management skills to implement projects within the department and deliver in a timely fashion.

  • Overseeing performance management systems to ensure services meet agreed service specification including key performance indicators and other local and national targets.
  • Analysing and using performance management data to inform and improve service delivery.
  • Providing support to enable services to develop a business-focused approach.
  • Contribute to and support the implementation of service redesign to support current and future business requirements.
  • Promote and support the development and enhancement of service delivery models across the multiple Haematology sites within Pathology.
  • Ensure business continuity plans are in place.
  • Participate in service reviews to ensure all sites/areas are fit for purpose.
  • Support the Service Managers contribution to major bid processes.
  • Work closely with the lead clinician for Haematology and the service lead amongst others to develop the service and manage risk.
  • Responsible for ensuring services have in place effective systems for the management, recording and reporting of risks, complaints, patient safety, clinical audit and clinical effectiveness and COSHH.
  • Responsible for delivery of the annual audit plan for both national and local audits, contribute to deciding and implementing appropriate action to improve service delivery, clinical outcomes and patient experience.
  • Support the use of research and evidence-based learning to promote clinical excellence.
  • Ensure incident reporting and complaints management procedures are followed, are used as a learning opportunity and that appropriate actions are taken to inform changes to service delivery and reduce the risk of recurrence.
  • Work with managers and colleagues continually to improve the quality of services within the overall governance framework.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff have received training and are aware of their personal responsibilities for the identification and reporting of risk and the legislative reporting requirements such as, RIDDOR and fire safety.
  • Work with other managers and colleagues to identify, manage and minimize risks within the Trusts Risk Management Framework.
  • Contribute to the formulation of strategies and plans, including the Annual Report for Pathology Services.
  • Contribute to the planning process for other services.
  • Contribute to Trust-wide strategic and planning processes.
  • Support patient and public involvement in the way services are planned, developed and provided.
  • Support the transition of new services into the Trust.
  • To resolve day to day management issues in Haematology for all aspects of the patient pathway.
  • Lead in recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Responsible for initial stages of disciplinary procedures, personal development, management of sickness absence and allocation of responsibilities of staff.
  • Motivating, encouraging and engaging teams and coaching individuals to achieve and embrace organisational objectives, key performance indicators and new ways of working.
  • Maintaining and seek to improve communication channels with commissioners, staff, patients and other stakeholders even where the substance of the communication may be difficult or contentious.
  • Ensuring that all staff and teams received and contribute to Trust communications.
  • Holding appropriate constructive meetings for staff in keeping with any project plans, good workforce management practice and requirements from the Service Manager/Clinical Director.
  • Ensure CPD is kept up to date and internal and external learning is attended in line with job requirements, ensuring learning is shared within the team.
