Job Type: Temporary | Part-Time

Our Functional Skills Tutors play an important role in supporting learners who need additional help to develop essential English and Maths skills. Working on a one-to-one or small group basis, you will help students build confidence, improve their core skills, and achieve recognised Functional Skills qualifications. We understand that every learner progresses at their own pace. That’s why we encourage a supportive, flexible approach to tutoring creating an environment where learners feel comfortable, motivated, and able to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver one-to-one or small group Functional Skills English and/or Maths sessions.
  • Plan and adapt lessons to suit different learning abilities and engagement levels.
  • Support learners in developing core literacy and numeracy skills relevant to everyday life and work.
  • Build positive relationships with learners to promote confidence and consistent progress.
  • Monitor progress and provide clear feedback to learners and relevant professionals where required.
Essential Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year of experience teaching or tutoring English and/or Maths.
  • Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills learning.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage learners with different needs and abilities.
  • Right to work in the UK. Must have, or be willing to undertake, an Enhanced DBS check.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • PGCE in Secondary Education and/or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience supporting learners working below expected levels.
  • Experience working in alternative provision, further education, or training settings.
