Directorate of COO Library, Museums and Galleries – Library Digital Imaging Officer Science Fiction Collections Grade 6 £33,951 - £38,784 per annum. Hours of work: Full-time – 35 hours/week. Tenure: Fixed term for 12 months. Hybrid Working: 2 days/week on campus or minimum 40% on campus, with 60% considered desirable where possible.

Join the team in Libraries, Museums and Galleries for an exciting digitisation project with the University’s unique Heritage collections. The Cultural Heritage team is seeking a Digital Imaging Officer for a fixed-term role of 12 months. The team looks after collections across three venues: Special Collections and Archives, the Victoria Gallery and Museum, and the Garstang Museum of Archaeology. This role is part of a major project to digitise the entire Olaf Stapledon Archive. The archive includes drafts, correspondence, and diaries of Olaf Stapledon, a pioneering science fiction author and Philosophy lecturer at the University of Liverpool.

Responsibilities:

  • Fully responsible for the delivery of the digitisation project, including workflow management, quality control of images and metadata, and digital asset management.
  • Report to the Digital Heritage Manager, work closely with curatorial and licensing teams to make the collection research‑ready and contribute to a major planned digital resource based on Stapledon’s work.
  • Operate as a specialist photographer, handling fragile objects, managing bulk-processing workflows, and troubleshooting to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Manage substantial periods of lone working in a specialist environment with low lighting levels and use of flash, and manual handling of archival materials.

Qualifications:

  • Specialist photography skills with experience handling fragile objects.
  • Proven ability in digitisation workflow management, including bulk‑processing.
  • Aptitude for problem‑solving and troubleshooting, with a strong commitment to meeting delivery dates.
