The predicted salary is between 109725 - 145478 £ per year.
This is a replacement post providing Consultant cover in Respiratory Medicine to complement existing teams. The post will be based primarily at The Royal Liverpool Hospital site with weekly requirements for clinics and MDT attendance at Aintree when not covering ward weeks. Ward weeks are offered for between 7 and 14 weeks per year; the remaining 28 or 35 weeks are dedicated to outpatient care with built‑in SPA and admin time during those weeks. This post has been designed to deliver care to patients with ILD in the South of the city and aims to develop the service into a tier 2 site, including clinics and tertiary MDT input at the Aintree site as part of the ILD service there. The post holder is expected to be flexible in working hours, including unsociable hours, weekends and bank holidays. Working hours will not contravene European Working Time Directive limits. On‑call duties are non‑resident.
Key Responsibilities
- Ward management of up to 28 respiratory patients at RLH during 2‑week ward periods to maintain patient continuity.
- RSU management of 6 NIV patients and an additional 4 acute respiratory patients (tracheostomies, critical/NIV step‑downs, intercostal drains, etc.) in one‑week blocks.
- Deliver bronchoscopy/EBUS lists, general respiratory and ILD clinics during off‑ward weeks at RLH, Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital and Aintree.
- Participate in specialist research activities.
- Provide on-call coverage for the Respiratory department whilst on wards.
Required Skills & Experience
Applicants should hold a qualified consultant level in Respiratory Medicine with specialist experience or a keen interest in Interstitial Lung Disease. Demonstrated ability to manage complex respiratory patients, lead multidisciplinary teams and engage in clinical research is essential.
