Overview
Applications are invited for 1 full‑time (10PAs 10% R&R) Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Windsor Community Mental Health Team. At Mersey Care we are passionate about mental health and wellbeing and delivering the best possible care for the people we serve. The Trust is focused on driving change and innovation by supporting and enhancing the leadership role of senior clinicians. This role is a replacement full‑time post (10 PAs) and offers opportunities to lead and develop practice in the field.
Responsibilities
- Be actively involved in the leadership, management and decision‑making within the Community Mental Health Team.
- Supervise and support team members who carry out assessments of patients referred to the team.
- Carry out comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide treatment for patients.
- Conduct patient reviews and lead Multidisciplinary reviews, CPA reviews and multiprofessional team meetings.
- Contribute to the development of the service and be actively involved in critical evaluation of its effectiveness over time.
- Ensure that management plans are clearly displayed in the medical records and undertake associated administrative duties.
- Foster relationships between staff within each organisation and with the local Clinical Commissioning Groups.
- Act as team responsible clinician for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 and carry out duties in accordance with the code of practice.
- Carry out comprehensive risk assessments and participate in the Trust’s risk‑management processes such as Health Risk Assessment and Management Meetings (H‑RAMM).
- Communicate effectively and work flexibly and cooperatively with inpatient units, other community mental health teams, specialist services and primary care.
- Liaison with families, carers and other stakeholders.
- Provide a consultative, supervisory and supportive role to the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Take an active part in the clinical work of the team; the majority of clinical work is clinic‑based, but service users may also be seen at home, as required.
- Prepare and submit detailed clinical reports.
- Develop a special interest in a clinical area in line with Trust objectives.
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and education supervision of trainees.
- Lead and manage a team in a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
- Participate in clinical audit, service/team evaluation and quality improvement activities.
- Appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff in line with Trust policies.
- Ensure medical and statutory compliance, including GMC registration and Mental Health Act approval.
- Support financial management of services and contribute to service planning activity.
- Engage with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure efficient running of services.
Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants should hold a recognised medical qualification, be registered with the General Medical Council, and have the necessary training and experience to perform the responsibilities listed above. Additional qualifications in psychiatry or related specialities, and experience in adult mental health services, are desirable.
