The post is a newly created position within the inpatient team at Clock View Hospital, Liverpool. The post holder will be responsible for 17 patients on the Dee ward, a female acute ward within the adult mental health facility.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide treatment for inpatients.
  • Support ward‑based staff to manage psychiatric emergencies.
  • Conduct patient reviews and lead multidisciplinary ward reviews, CPA reviews and multi‑professional meetings.
  • Act as the responsible clinician for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and carry out duties in accordance with the code of practice.
  • Provide verbal and written evidence to Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Manager’s hearings.
  • Carry out comprehensive risk assessments and participate in Trust’s risk management processes such as Health Risk Assessment and Management Meetings (H‑RAMM) and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangement (MAPPA) Meetings.
  • Provide medical leadership to the inpatient team.
  • Liaise with carers, families and relevant stakeholders including the criminal justice system and other services.
  • Maintain effective communication with other services, including in‑patient and community mental health teams and primary care.
  • Provide clinical/educational supervision to junior colleagues.
  • Obtain and renew Responsible Clinician approval if not already held.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and continuous medical education.
  • Lead and manage a team fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Appointed Consultant Psychiatrist with an NHS consultant appointment and registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Approved as a Responsible Clinician or willingness to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA approval and renew certification as per procedures.
  • Experience managing acute adult inpatient psychiatric wards and leading multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), risk assessment and management frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing supervision and teaching to junior staff.
