Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint 4 full time clinical teaching fellows for 12 months commencing August 2026. The posts are an exciting opportunity for prospective candidates who have completed the Foundation or Core Surgical Training programmes and/or who are preparing to apply for specialist training programmes.
These posts offer financial support to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Clinical Practice with the University of Edge Hill. The certificate is a recognised course for application for Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Appointments will be based at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
The posts are split 50% clinical and 50% teaching, with a commitment to general surgery and urology on call at Core Surgical Trainee level. Each post will have a supervising consultant who will help develop a tailored clinical timetable depending on the applicant’s experience and training needs. The successful applicant will also pursue the certificate of Teaching and Learning in Clinical Practice and benefit from funding and scheduled study days.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver bedside and tutorial teaching, providing mentorship and supervision of medical students.
- Participate in the general surgery on‑call rota, including night shifts and weekends, deputising for absent colleagues and performing additional duties in emergencies.
- Be available for irregular commitments outside the normal rostered duties to support continuity of patient care.
- Engage in audit and quality improvement projects within the clinical departments.
