Aintree Hospital, part of the Liverpool University Hospitals group, is pleased to offer a Senior Clinical Fellowship in Cardiology. This is an advanced fellowship designed for doctors who are at, or near completion of, their cardiology specialist training, or who have recently completed their cardiology training and wish to consolidate and expand their subspecialty expertise. The post is not intended for candidates at an early or intermediate stage of cardiology training.
The successful candidate will take an active and senior role in the day-to-day management of both inpatient and outpatient services, contributing as a senior member of the multidisciplinary cardiology team. The post is available for a period of 12 months and is designed to support the transition to, or consolidation of, a consultant-level career in cardiology.
Responsibilities:- Attendance at two to three consultant-led outpatient clinics per week, with expectation of operating with a high degree of clinical autonomy.
- Active senior participation in daily morning ward rounds and oversight of inpatient management as a senior member of the cardiology registrar team.
- Participation in the weekend cardiology daytime on-call rota; may include shift-based working patterns including weekend shifts depending on departmental requirements.
- Participation in infective endocarditis multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and valve clinic discussions.
- Provision of clinical leadership and support to junior trainees within the cardiology team.
- Up to two non-clinical sessions per week dedicated to:
- Subspecialty training (e.g., cardiac imaging, heart failure, electrophysiology, or interventional cardiology) subject to departmental availability and aligned to the candidate's career trajectory.
- Audit, quality improvement, or research activity.
- Broader professional development, teaching, or preparation for consultant-level practice.
- Substantive cardiology background.
- Hold MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
- Demonstrated competence in core cardiology practice with minimal supervision.
- Experience at a senior registrar level or post-Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) clinician.
