The role of a Porter is instrumental to the smooth running of the Hospital; you will move patients, deliver patient meals and manage safe movement of other medical equipment. Porters should be able to work quickly and calmly in emergencies, possess good interpersonal skills, listen and empathise, remain patient and tolerant, maintain good physical fitness, follow instructions, and work within tight time constraints.
Responsibilities
- Support service improvements and encourage the delivery of high productivity, supported by excellent customer care.
- Work on your own initiative and under direction, maintaining confidentiality and discretion at all times.
- Prioritise workload and multi-task under time constraints, while providing a customer-focused Porter service.
- Transport patients to wards and departments, including emergency bed and stretcher patients.
- Take specimens to laboratories, transport food and medical gases, and deliver meal trolleys to and from wards.
- Collect soiled linen, rubbish and clinical waste from wards and departments.
- Deliver equipment and drugs, including controlled drugs, to wards and departments.
- Attend fire response and assist shift manager on BDI’s and DOA’s.
- Carry out any other designated duties as required by the portering management.
