Job Purpose
To deliver a high‑quality social work service to people who are deemed vulnerable or needing support due to adult safeguarding concerns, providing support to adults and families in need of protection within the local community.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Section Managers with delivery of social work services within the Adult Safeguarding Process and deputise for Section Manager and Team Managers when unavailable.
- Assist Section Manager’s management of team budgets and authorise spending according to service criteria, legislation and financial regulations within the realms of safeguarding.
- Maintain good working relationships with partner agencies through actively promoting good interagency understanding of safeguarding practice.
- Be familiar with the key policies and procedures of the department and with key legislation and guidance which provides the framework for delivery of services to adults and families.
- Take responsibility for management of casework and ensuring social work practice complies with statutory responsibilities.
- Audit case files under the Quality Assurance Framework and ensure any action plans created are progressed.
- Provide informal supervision when required to the wider team, ensuring that supervision discussion and decision making is recorded.
- Provide an educative role to SW teams within adult services and private providers.
Qualifications
- Recognised Social Work qualification.
- Registered with Social Care Wales.
- CPEL consolidation award.
- Evidence of post‑qualification learning or achievements, e.g. Approved Mental Health Practitioner, Best Interest Assessor, Experienced Practitioner.
- 3 years post‑qualification experience with adults.
- Management qualification.
- Knowledge of relevant current legislation and guidance for the post including Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2016.
- Knowledge and experience of the service user group who access support from the adult service/team.
- Knowledge of Person‑Centred Planning approaches and Outcome‑Based Planning.
- Ability to work with service users to develop appropriate, effective and sustainable responses to meeting need using a range of available resources.
- Experience of complex case work.
- Experience of using safeguarding/adult protection procedures.
- Ability to think clearly and convey thoughts, ideas and opinions in a concise and structured way.
- Ability to use departmental and corporate policies and procedures to support service delivery.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
- Ability to prepare accurate, coherent reports and records in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently and plan and manage own time.
- IT literate – ability to use a range of Microsoft packages.
- Ability to communicate in Welsh.
- Awareness and sensitivity to the Welsh culture.
- Ability to communicate in English.
Supervision & Management
- Ability to mentor and support newly qualified Social Workers and an understanding of the purpose of supervision.
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
- Ability to work flexibly, prioritising case work and high turnover of work to meet service demands.
