Dynamic Catering Supervisor/Cook required to prepare and supervise meal service to patients, staff, and visitors. Working pattern Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day between 6am and 7:30pm. Must demonstrate a passion for food, excellent customer care skills, strong leadership, and ability to maintain high standards of care with compassion.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Assistant Catering Manager to ensure meals are produced to the highest standards, following food safety legislation and protocols.
  • Complete and manage paperwork and documents associated with service delivery; support and assist the Assistant Catering Manager as required.
  • Plan and organise kitchen operations, allocate work to catering assistants, supervise food production and service, ensuring compliance with timetables and monitoring forms.
  • Ensure meals conform to correct recipe, quantity, quality and appearance. Forecast menu requirements, check monitoring/audit forms, and address remedial actions.
  • Adhere to Food Safety legislation and local codes; handle major incidents or critical failures following correct procedures.
  • Assist management in menu and recipe planning, and in producing food safety protocols including critical control points.
  • Understand and accommodate special therapeutic and cultural dietary requirements, and communicate relevant information to patients and staff.
  • Attend relevant meetings; liaise with suppliers, external agencies, and across wards and departments. Visit wards frequently to discuss meal services, advise on allergens, choose menus, and provide dysphagia descriptors.
  • Monitor waste, and propose actions to managers. Maintain professional attitude, personal hygiene, and appearance codes.
  • Handle finance responsibilities: adhere to Trust standing financial instructions, cash handling, vending machine management, and material/equipment use.
  • Secure department at end of shift, control overtime, issue stock per financial procedures.
  • Handle human resources duties: train new starters, manage sickness/absence, perform disciplinary and grievance first line, complete team briefs.
  • Maintain health & safety responsibilities: ensure own safety, enforce safety procedures, comply with Trust policies, Datix reporting, and Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Take proactive role in risk management: assess risks, take appropriate actions, and report incidents, near misses and hazards.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work unsocial hours; experience in catering or culinary roles; knowledge of food safety legislation and NHS catering standards; training in dysphagia and therapeutic nutrition desirable.
