The Trust is seeking a Specialty doctor in Psychiatry to work as part of the inpatient team at Knowsley. This is a permanent post created as part of the reconfiguration of the medical model at Knowsley adult inpatient wards. The post holder will support the Consultants across two wards, Coniston and Grasmere units.

Knowsley Resource and Recovery Centre is an adult mental health facility based on the Whiston Hospital Site, Prescot. There are two acute adult wards: Coniston (Male ward) and Grasmere (Female ward). All wards accept admissions and patient transfers.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Consultant Psychiatrist by providing medical input for patients across Coniston and Grasmere wards.
  • Carry out comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide treatment for inpatients.
  • Support staff to manage psychiatric emergencies.
  • Conduct patient reviews and lead multidisciplinary ward reviews, CPA reviews and multi-professional meetings.
  • Provide verbal and written evidence to Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Manager’s hearings.
  • Carry out comprehensive risk assessments and participate in the Trust’s risk management processes such as Health Risk Assessment and Management and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangement Meetings.
  • Provide medical leadership to the team.
  • Liaise with carers.
  • Maintain effective communication with other services.
  • Provide clinical supervision to junior colleagues.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching.
  • Participate in the training of other disciplines.
  • Provide educational supervision of trainees and other disciplines.
  • Engage in continuing medical education within statutory limits.

Requirements

  • Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 is required, or the candidate must be willing to undertake training to obtain it and renew approval as per agreed procedures.
