About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced chef who enjoys catering to large groups, designing menus, and cooking with fresh seasonal food. This role offers full autonomy over menu development and the chance to prepare nutritious, high‑quality, flavoursome, and well‑balanced meals that our residents will love. It is a great opportunity for chefs who value their time and want to avoid split shifts and anti‑social hours. You will oversee all aspects of our kitchen and catering services, manage a small team, and ensure the highest standards of nutrition, hygiene and safety at all times. Occasionally you may be asked to cater for meals for other day centres, luncheon clubs and community activities; some weekend work will be required.
Responsibilities
- Plan and develop menus that incorporate fresh seasonal ingredients and meet the dietary needs of residents.
- Manage kitchen operations, including food preparation, presentation, and station upkeep.
- Lead, motivate and inspire a small kitchen staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Ensure nutrition, hygiene and safety standards comply with regulatory requirements.
- Occasionally cater for meals at other day centres, luncheon clubs, community events and weekend shifts.
- Advise on and implement diet‑specific menus for residents with special medical or personal requirements.
- Maintain positive relationships with residents and their families to understand and accommodate preferences.
- Work closely with other care staff to support the overall care package of the home.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience working in a professional kitchen, providing meals for large numbers of people.
- Knowledge of menu planning for specialist diets (e.g. dementia‑friendly, low‑sodium, vegetarian).
- Experience leading, motivating and inspiring a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with elderly residents.
- Ability to manage budgets and stock effectively.
- Hold, or be working towards, a Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership or equivalent (not essential).
Benefits
- Competitive salary and higher rates of pay at weekends.
- 30 days holiday (including bank holidays).
- Company pension scheme.
- Free uniform and DBS checks.
- Access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
- Refer‑a‑Friend scheme, rewarding up to £1000 for successful referrals.
- Blue Light Card and “My Rewards” programme, offering discounts on shopping, days out, restaurants and more.
- Training and development opportunities.
- Supportive and caring team culture.
