Fixed term until 30/4/28, this position offers an opportunity to support ongoing research into axon morphology maintenance in C. elegans within the lab of Dr Muriel Desbois at Keele University’s School of Life Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance of C. elegans laboratory stocks and essential reagents, ensuring day‑to‑day operation of the research lab.
  • Train on and conduct a wide range of laboratory experiments, including genetic crosses, forward genetic screens, microscopy‑based analyses, behavioural assays, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Analyse experimental data, prepare results for discussion with the Principal Investigator, and contribute to presentations at internal meetings and potentially scientific conferences.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant area such as neuroscience, genetics or microscopy.
  • Experience working with or rearing insects is essential.
  • Good knowledge of genetics/molecular background is desirable.
  • Substantial capacity to work independently, problem‑solve, maintain close attention to detail, and collaborate within a dynamic team environment.
