We are currently looking to recruit 2x 20 hours drivers for your HSDU unit. 2 x 20 hours a week permanent post.

Responsibilities include:

  • Communication throughout the day to wards, clinics and public.
  • Must have a clean driver's licence that allows driving a 3.5 ton vehicle.
  • Maintain the vehicle by carrying out daily checks that have to be logged, reporting those to the supervisor/deputy manager.
  • Log information in relation to the vehicle that is kept in the office.
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean and filled with fuel.
  • Carry out daily checks on the tug truck.
  • Complete external training before use of the tug truck.
  • Use own judgement when carrying out the role as a lone worker, which could include changing times of deliveries to clinics on and off site, Theatres, which could mean cancelling a delivery slot.
  • Plan the events of each day due to ad-hoc requirements from users.
  • Trained on how to use spillage kit when out in the vehicle.
  • Ability to push and pull heavy loads on and off the vehicle.
  • Trained in cleaning, packing and sterilisation of instruments.
  • Preparation for washing contaminated medical devices, including dismantling of complex instrumentation in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and HTM guidelines.
  • Inspection of medical devices and other associated equipment for cleanliness, functionality, completeness, assembly and identification against tray specification lists.
  • Wrapping of instrumentation sets and other surgical equipment in accordance with HTM guidelines and HSDU policies and procedures.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community.

Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023, significantly improving emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
