About this job:

Spinal Point Range: 13, 15, 18. Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Min 30 hours per week). Department: Education. Location: St Michaels Hospice, Bartestree and other locations as necessary. Reports to: Lead Teacher/Practitioner. Financial Responsibility: No direct financial responsibilities.

Job Purpose: To develop and apply the skills required to educate, train, and support both clinical and non-clinical staff. To enhance the quality of palliative and end-of-life care delivery through the promotion of evidence-based practice internally and externally. To actively engage in and successfully complete a structured development programme to support progression to a Teacher Practitioner role.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the delivery of academic and vocational teaching across a range of palliative care topics including assessment of learners.
  • Assist with the identification & support of staff in the clinical setting with their on-going CPD, including internal & external students.
  • Assist with the development of learning materials and facilitation of learning with a wide range of individuals and groups internal and external.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of work experience programmes; contribute to operation of library & stock renewal.
  • Support the Leading, management & delivery of functional skills training in line with National Numeracy & BKSB (Health Education England).
  • Assist with Volunteer librarian (x1); in-house students (TNA / RNDA & others) (x 2-6).
  • Planning: Assist with planning and managing the annual programme of education.
  • Develop the ability to plan learning and teaching activities linked to service delivery needs.
  • Develop the ability to plan, cost and deliver tailor-made training to external organisations & individuals.
  • Develop the ability to assist with planning individualised induction and ongoing training requirements for clinical & non-clinical staff & volunteers.
  • Communication: Develop the skills to represent the organisation externally (Higher Education, care homes; care agencies, NHS Trusts, wider hospice movement, health and social care education focus groups).
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure work streams complement each other.
  • Develop and share evidence-based knowledge and skills internally and externally which may influence and change practice to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Problem Solving and Innovation: Develop resources and strategies for promotion of best practice; respond to internal & external requests for clinical support & advice.
  • Ensure learning and teaching is based on an appropriate evidence base linked to regulatory frameworks (e.g., NICE, NMC, AHP, GMC, CQC).
  • Contribute to the development of new learning programmes and clinical policies and care plans.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Specialist Knowledge and Experience
  • Essential: Professional Nursing Registration with NMC; relevant 1st level degree as minimum qualification; registered nursing care experience in a clinical care setting for at least 1 year.
  • Desirable or willingness to work towards: NVQ Assessor qualification or equivalent; mentoring & assessor qualification; teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent); IT skills across a range of IT software; philosophies & principles of palliative care.
  • Leadership & Management or Coaching qualification; MSc level qualification in a relevant subject; facilitating clinical skills & simulation training; facilitating advanced communication skills.
