Role Overview: Head of Service – Integrated Disability Service (IDS), overseeing the social care component.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage two teams of statutory social workers, providing operational and social work practice advice.
  • Oversee team managers and ensure compliance with statutory guidance and good practice.
  • Authorise and monitor support plans, ensuring outcomes are met and the service delivers value for money.
  • Manage the social care and staffing budget, track performance metrics, and maintain up‑to‑date supervision, appraisal and training records.
  • Drive service improvement and development initiatives, leading change initiatives and maintaining partnerships with health colleagues.
  • Contribute to Local Authority governance, senior leadership meetings and contract discussions.
  • Represent the service in internal and external meetings, supporting statutory and legal practices.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading change and development in a social care or public sector setting.
  • Strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and relevant statutory guidance.
  • Experience in authorising and supporting intervention plans and working within a statutory framework.
  • Ability to manage budgets, conduct performance reviews and develop staff training programmes.
  • Experience of attending court on behalf of a service is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
