This role provides flexible clinical cover across both the GP Hub and the main practice. The postholder will deliver high-quality patient care through a combination of same-day triage, on-call duties, and routine face-to-face clinics. The role is designed to support operational resilience by flexing between service areas depending on daily staffing and patient demand. The GP will work efficiently and safely in a fast-paced environment, contribute to leadership and quality improvement activities, and support the development of the wider clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Duties
    • Provide same-day triage within the GP Hub, managing acute presentations and directing patients to appropriate pathways.
    • Make timely, safe clinical decisions based on the information available, escalating where necessary.
    • Provide routine and urgent face-to-face appointments when working in the main practice.
    • Undertake on-call duties as required, supporting the management of same-day demand.
    • Work until 6.30pm on assigned hub days.
    • Manage a broad range of clinical conditions in line with best practice, NICE guidance and local policies.
    • Prescribe safely and appropriately in accordance with national and local prescribing guidelines.
    • Provide continuity of care where appropriate and contribute to holistic patient management.
  • Leadership and Teamwork
    • Provide clinical supervision and support to ACPs, trainees, medical students and other MDT members.
    • Contribute to clinical meetings, case discussions and shared decision-making.
    • Promote a positive, collaborative team culture focused on safe, effective and compassionate care.
  • Quality Improvement
    • Lead or contribute to Quality Improvement (QI) projects that enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
    • Engage in audit, reflective practice and governance activities.
    • Participate in research initiatives where relevant to the practices research portfolio.
  • Professional Responsibilities
    • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records using EMIS.
    • Comply with the GMC Good Medical Practice framework and all relevant clinical standards.
    • Participate in annual appraisal and complete all required mandatory training.
    • Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge through CPD and peer support.

Working Relationships

The postholder will work closely with GP Partners, Salaried GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Practice Nurses and HCAs, Mental Health and MSK specialist practitioners, Practice Manager and Operations Team, Reception and administrative teams.
