NHS England is looking to appoint a Foundation Training Programme Director with responsibility for the overall management and oversight of education and training of Foundation Placements in Psychiatry across the three West Midlands Foundation Schools (North, South, Central). The foundation programme serves approximately 1,300 trainees in the West Midlands. The post is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Educational Supervisor seeking to develop skills and enhance their educational portfolio.

The position offers 1.5PA which will be reimbursed to the successful candidate’s employing Trust at £10,000 (pro rata); additional SPA time may be required. Foundation Training Programme Directors are expected to continue in clinical practice while fulfilling the role.

Successful candidates will work with local lead educators to ensure each psychiatry placement meets local NHSE standards and that trainees gain a comprehensive range of experiences essential for full registration and completion of the foundation curriculum.

Post holder responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring Psychiatry Foundation Supervisors are appropriately trained
  • Maintaining their training up to date
  • Ensuring the quality of placements

The role will be offered until 31 March 2027.
