The role of the Fire Safety Adviser is to provide competent fire safety advice, in line with current legislation and guidance, to the Trust. The advice provided is to ensure that the Trust meets its legislative requirements, maintains compliance and provides a safe environment, free from fire, for its staff, patients and members of the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order) 2005, as amended.
- Maintain statutory requirements dictated by HTM Firecode.
- Provide specialist advice on all aspects of Fire Safety, legal and technical requirements to the Trust and as necessary to other stakeholders.
- Support training functions, producing, organising and delivering training where necessary.
- Ensure all persons and property are protected from the risk of fire.
- Undertake investigation of fire incidents and compile detailed reports as required.
- Carry out inspections, risk assessments, audits and prepare reports/comments to external bodies such as architects on new buildings/alterations.
- Provide Fire Safety Advice and Guidance to senior management, estates technical staff, contractors, capital projects teams, department/ward managers, and colleagues as a Fire Safety representative at various meetings.
- Design, develop, prepare and deliver a wide range of fire safety training to all staff throughout the organisation specific to their individual needs and departmental requirements.
- Record attendees, feedback information and outcomes on the NBT systems.
- Organise training dates, times and locations with all wards/departments to ensure appropriate training is delivered to all staff.
- Support wards/departments with the execution of fire safety drills.
- Attend Fire Safety Meetings and prepare/compile reports related to fire safety as requested by the Fire Safety Management Team.
- Compile reports with recommendations related to the safety from fire and escape provisions of new building proposals and alterations to existing buildings.
- Maintain/manage record keeping for staff fire training and provide statistical reports for staff training, fire alarms, and fire incidents for managers.
- Support in the preparation and data input of the annual Fire report.
- Prepare, design and review all training materials used in the training of all staff.
- Liaise with external bodies such as fire and rescue services.
- Attend/respond to all fire alarm actuations and supervise activities during emergency situations.
- Where practically possible, attend emergency incidents outside normal working hours.
