We are looking for an experienced Transport Supervisor to join Nationwide Platforms to assist the Transport Manager in the legal compliance, fleet availability and daily management of our HGV drivers. As a Transport Supervisor, you will have line management responsibility for a team of HGV drivers. This will be a varied role with responsibilities from ensuring the drivers are engaged and have regular communication, through to dealing with escalations and conducting health and safety checks. You will need to have managed drivers before, with in multi-site operations, be fully knowledgeable with transport legislation, have a fair and disciplined approach to coaching and managing a team.

In reward we can offer a competitive salary of up to £38,000 (depending on experience), health insurance, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, pension, and life assurance.

Responsibilities:
  • Daily line management of drivers, coaching, motivating, and leading the team.
  • Ensure compliance with all road transport legislative requirements and all internal quality, health, safety and environmental policies and standards.
  • Assist in managing the undertakings of the region in line with the Office of the Traffic Commissioner requirements on a restricted operator’s licence.
  • Drive a high degree of vehicle availability, minimising vehicle off the road downtime, to ensure that core assets are available.
  • Download tachograph heads in each vehicle listed on the operator’s licence for the specific depots.
  • Ensure that each driver within the depot downloads their digital tachograph card daily to ensure accurate records are kept.
  • Provide a first point of escalation for all drivers in the region for all enquiries.
  • Conduct spot checks on PPE, securing equipment, etc.
  • Assist in the driver engagement programme on initiatives such as toolbox talks, safety alerts, etc.
  • Collate weekly time sheets and scan these to the Regional Transport Manager.
  • Undertake regular inspections of vehicles, loads, and loading/unloading operations to ensure compliance with all legislation and company policies.
  • Ensure that daily walk around checks are being completed by all drivers, with defects reported as soon as reasonably possible and rectified within a timely manner.
  • Conduct first day inductions with all new drivers in the depot.
  • Consistently strive to improve driver engagement.
  • Investigate and monitor the compliance with the company AIM line reporting procedures.
  • First line management for all driver related and legal compliance issues.
  • Ensure all driver training is up to date such as DCPC, IPAF, and all relevant systems are kept up to date.
  • Build strong working relationships with service providers and internal fleet team.
About you:
  • Able to lead by example with a proven track record of managing HGV drivers in a multi-site environment.
  • Proficient in the use of the PDA and associated applications, with the ability to show and train other drivers in the use of the tools available.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of transport law and the obligations of NWPs undertakings to the office of the traffic commissioner would be desirable.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Must have a current, full UK car driving license; an HGV licence would also be desirable.
  • IPAF qualification desirable.
