We are working with a growing UK-based technology and consulting business that supports major public sector and defence organisations with data-led and digital transformation programmes. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping and winning work across some of the UK’s most important and complex defence initiatives. The organisation operates as a specialist SME, partnering with larger integrators and government stakeholders to deliver high-impact outcomes.
As a Senior Business Development Manager, you will focus on identifying, shaping and securing new business opportunities within the UK Defence sector. This is a true business development role with a strong emphasis on early engagement and influence, building strategic relationships, securing positions on large, multi-partner programmes. You will work closely with internal technical and delivery teams to develop compelling propositions and drive opportunities from initial engagement through to contract award.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and qualify new opportunities across the UK Defence landscape
- Engage early with stakeholders to influence programme direction and requirements
- Build and maintain relationships with defence organisations, partners and integrators
- Secure positions within delivery teams through partnering and collaboration agreements
- Develop and execute structured capture plans for priority opportunities
- Lead or contribute to high-quality proposals and bids
- Work cross-functionally to shape solutions aligned to customer needs
- Track and manage a pipeline of strategic opportunities
- Experience in business development within the UK public sector or defence environment
- Proven track record of winning or shaping new business (services-led rather than product sales)
- Understanding of defence structures, procurement and commercial processes
- Experience working with or alongside prime contractors or system integrators
- Exposure to digital, data, cloud, or technology-enabled services
- It’s strongly desirable to have a background in the Armed Forces or defence community & an existing network within areas such as Defence Digital, Army, RAF, or related organisations
- Strong consultative approach
- Commercial awareness and ability to assess opportunity viability
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across technical and delivery teams
- Resilient and comfortable working on long sales cycles
- UK‑wide role with flexible/remote working (travel to customer and partner sites)
- Candidates must be eligible for UK security clearance (SC minimum; DV advantageous)
