We are looking for a dedicated, reliable, and experienced Male Personal Assistant / Support Worker to provide one‑to‑one support for an 18‑year‑old young man with autism. The family moved home six months ago, and he is currently working towards returning to college. He thrives on consistency, routine, and clear expectations and requires support from someone who can provide structure, encouragement, and reassurance throughout his day.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support with morning routines and preparation for college during term time.
  • Prompt and encourage dressing and personal readiness.
  • Assist with transport arrangements and accompany to and from college when required.
  • Use visual supports, social stories, and clear communication to help him understand daily plans.
  • Provide reassurance around transitions and changes to routine.
  • Help establish and maintain consistent routines.
  • Support access to community activities during school holidays.
  • Accompany him to swimming sessions, parks, and other suitable outings.
  • Encourage engagement in activities while maintaining routine and structure.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and social inclusion.
  • Administer prescribed medication when required.
  • Monitor wellbeing and respond appropriately to signs of anxiety or distress.
  • Recognise triggers and use positive de‑escalation techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with family members.
  • Ensure safety and wellbeing at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Male (genuine occupational requirement).
  • Patient, attentive, understanding, reliable, firm but fair, with the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Clear, direct, and confident communication; calm under pressure and able to think quickly when situations change.
  • Proactive and able to use own initiative.
  • Commitment to providing consistent support and routine.
  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and understanding of sensory needs, triggers, and de‑escalation strategies.
  • Experience administering medication or willingness to undertake training.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle with business insurance.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) and autism‑specific training.
  • Experience using visual schedules, social stories, and structured support approaches.
