Key duties include:
- Leading the multidisciplinary team
- Clinical supervision of junior staff
- Maintaining patient safety and flow
- Leading on child safeguarding within the ED
- Providing clinical ED sessions with senior input into paediatric patient care
- Ensuring appropriate discharge and hospital admission
- Management and leadership responsibilities for children in the ED
- Running the paediatric part of the Emergency Department seeing emergency cases
- Supervising junior staff and other allied ED staff
- Supporting the PEM lead with managerial responsibility for quality improvement, guidelines, department design and process for paediatric patients
- Facilitating audit and research activities within and between the ED and Paediatric Departments
- Ensuring robust PEM teaching and training for all doctors and nurses within the ED
- Actively participating in Emergency preparedness for a major incident involving children
- Other activities as allocated by the PEM lead or ED Medical Service Head
